It's Composer Week! In every grade level there is a different composer to learn about and different activities to do. There have been so many wonderful composer throughout history, this is just a little insight into some of the lives and artistic abilities of some of these incredible people. Also, recorder players, check out the "Old Town Road" tutorial in the Extras-Recorder section and a fun new sound video in Extras - Videos. Have a great week!
Thanks to everyone who took part in the Music Monday activities last week. I hope you had some fun with all those different ideas. There are lots of new videos posted this week including a ball game, a pirate song, a Maori stick game featuring my husband, a new sing a long song, and a fantastic theory website for Gr. 5s. Hope you find lots to do this week ! Remember to look at activities posted in other grade levels!
I hope you've had a chance to watch the video on the home page and have looked at the activities on the choice boards. You might find that some of the activities are the same as what your classroom teacher is asking you to do. You don't have to do them twice! We wanted to work together to provide a whole week of music because music is everywhere in our lives. Have you seen any of the concerts that people are putting on from their homes? Have you heard any of the parody songs about Covid-19? I'd love to hear about what you chose and how it worked out for you. Use the contact button above and I'll be sure to email you back.
Also, new this week is a "Recorder" page under "Extras". There are some awesome online resources for learning new notes and new songs. I'll be adding more music in the near future. Check back often! Music Monday is coming! Monday May 4 we will celebrate Music Monday Virtual Style! There are songs posted under the Music Monday button and on the Sing Along for students and families to learn. On Monday May 4 there will be a variety of activities that you can participate in to celebrate with hundreds of thousands of people in Canada and around the world, virtually of course. Visit the Coalition for Music Education website to find out more about Music Monday and be sure to click on the Music Monday button this week and next week so you don't miss out!
Although Music Monday is our focus this week, I've added new lessons to each grade level, some fun musical stories under "Videos" and another "Sing Along Song" called Listen to the Water. Have fun and keep on singing! Another week of learning for everyone. Again, there are lots of updates for students and families to explore this week; new lessons for each grade, a new sing along song, some extra videos to watch, a fun off line activity involving glasses and water, and a drum kit to make if you look at the Gr. 4 lessons. I keep learning as well. This week I was able to create my updates in advance and when I woke up this morning, there they were on the webpage......well most of them anyways. I'll be working this week to figure out how to make sure they are posted in order and how to correct the ones that are currently out of order. I hope you are all well and look forward to hearing from you. Have a great week.
I hope everyone had a relaxing weekend in the beautiful sunshine! There are lots of new updates this week. There are lessons for each grade level. I have started using a title including the week # and the part # so lessons can be done in order. I've also added to the Sing Along section and the Videos section. Videos included are how to read notes off the staff and using ledger lines, some singing practice using solfege syllables, and a cool performance on boomwhackers! Enjoy.
Hi everyone,
There are now lessons for every grade level, two songs in the Sing Along section plus ideas to create some instruments so you can add some rhythms, a video of one of my favourite groups, The Pentatonix, and a video that will explain how to read notes off the staff. There is also a new section for Offline Activities with a Sound Walk suggestion and the Ukulele Song book we use at school is there too! Have fun. - Mrs. Garry April 1, 2020
